Beginners → launching your kite

  1. For beginners it is not recommended to use a ''solo start'', but to ask someone who knows kiteboarding for help.
  2. The assistant should place the kite so that the (leading edge) is pointing into the wind with one end of the kite touching the sand and the other floating in the air (the kite is in a vertical position forming the letter ''C'').
  3. Check repeatedly to make sure that lines are attached to the kite properly and that they are not mixed up.
  4. Make sure that the ''safety system'' is in good working order and that the leash is attached.
  5. See to it that the kite is inflated evenly, does not wobble (like a rag) and is stable.
  6. If you are sure that everything is under control, give your assistant (who is holding your kite) a sign that he/she can release the kite. A kite should never be tossed into the air - it should slowly start ascending by itself (never ask a novice for assistance).
  7. Start pulling on the topmost steering line in a calm manner to move the kite upwards.
  8. NB! Do not make any sudden moves.
